Darnell Stoxstell is an upcoming bassist and producer that is taking the music scene by storm. He's originally native to Chicago, Il, but spent a small fraction of his childhood years in Atlanta, Ga where he discovered a deeper love for music. In the 6th grade, Darnell started playing the Upright bass in an Orchestra at Creekland Middle School. Before high school, he started traveling with his mother as she progressed in her career. At this point he started to learn how to play the electric bass.
In 2012, Darnell started attending Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina as a music major. In Columbia, he recognized that he wanted to ultimately do music full-time.
In 2014, Darnell decided to transfer to Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga. There, he pursued a more defined music degree in Jazz Studies. In Atlanta once again, he used his time to not only expand his knowledge in school, but he sought out to meet and work with those already in the music industry.
So far while in Atlanta, Darnell has shared the stage with acts like Chanté Moore, Keke Wyatt, Lloyd, The GSU Jazz Band, Stevie J, And Deitrick Haddon. He's also had the opportunity to play at The Atlanta Gospel Fest, and The Atlanta Jazz Festival.
There's a quote by the great drummer, Jimmy Cobb, that frequently resonates in his mind. That is to “Play ruthlessly but cooperatively.”
